Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that the priest of Elkenah was smitten so that he died and then the Lord sent a famine to the land.  Abraham's father was sorely tormented due to the famine which humbled him and caused him to repent of the evil that he had done.  He no longer sought to take away Abrahm's life.  Abraham 1:29-30 "Now, after the priest of Elkenah was smitten that he died, there came a fulfilment of those things which were said unto me concerning the land of Chaldea, that there should be a famine in the land. Accordingly a famine prevailed throughout all the land of Chaldea, and my father was sorely tormented because of the famine, and he repented of the evil which he had determined against me, to take away my life."

Yesterday we read about how we can never hide from the Lord and how even if we're in total darkness, it is like bright sunshine to Him.  Today in the New Testament we read about how indeed, nothing can separate us from the love of God.  No matter what tribulations or distresses we may be suffering, there is absolutely nothing that can separate us from God's love. And through this love, we can conquer anything! Romans 8:35-39 "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Some verses with a thought booklet are very appropriate for this Easter morning.  He is not here for He is risen!  Luke 24:1-9 "Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.  And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.  And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:  And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?  He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,  Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that as the wicked people lifted up their hands to try to sacrifice Abraham to their false gods, Abraham lifted up his voice in prayer to God, who hearkened unto him and sent an angel to stand by him and unloose his bands.  The voice of Jehovah came to Abraham and told him that He had come down to deliver him and take him away from his father's house.  Because they had turned their hearts away from serving the Lord and had instead worshiped idols, the Lord would destroy those who sought to take away Abraham's life.  The Lord would lead Abraham by the hand and give him the priesthood. His name would be known in the earth forever.  Abraham 1:15-19 "And as they lifted up their hands upon me, that they might offer me up and take away my life, behold, I lifted up my voice unto the Lord my God, and the Lord hearkened and heard, and he filled me with the vision of the Almighty, and the angel of his presence stood by me, and immediately unloosed my bands;  And his voice was unto me: Abraham, Abraham, behold, my name is Jehovah, and I have heard thee, and have come down to deliver thee, and to take thee away from thy father's house, and from all thy kinsfolk, into a strange land which thou knowest not of;  And this because they have turned their hearts away from me, to worship the god of Elkenah, and the god of Libnah, and the god of Mahmackrah, and the god of Korash, and the god of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; therefore I have come down to visit them, and to destroy him who hath lifted up his hand against thee, Abraham, my son, to take away thy life.  Behold, I will lead thee by my hand, and I will take thee, to put upon thee my name, even the Priesthood of thy father, and my power shall be over thee.  As it was with Noah so shall it be with thee; but through thy ministry my name shall be known in the earth forever, for I am thy God."

In the New Testament we read that The Spirit bears witness to us that we are the children of God.  And since we are His children, we are also heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if we're willing to suffer with Him.  We can also be glorified together. What a marvelous message this is!  Romans 8:16-17 "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that there is no hiding from God.  No matter where we are or where we go, God will find us.  Even if we're in the darkest night, it is like bright sunshine to the Lord.  We're still visible to Him.  Now we can look at this as being unable to get away with sin without the Lord knowing about it.  But there's another way to look at this as well.  It means that eve when we're going through dark times when we feel like God is not with us, He really is.  He is always aware of us even if we're not aware of Him.  We may feel distant from Him, but He still loves us and is watching over us.  There is no place we can go where we are out of His sight.  Psalms 139:7-12 "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?  If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;  Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.  If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.  Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read of the wickedness of the priest of Pharaoh in offering up men, women, and children to strange gods.  Three virgins were offered up as sacrifices to false gods because they refused to bow down and worship them.  Abraham 1: 8-11 "Now, at this time it was the custom of the priest of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to offer up upon the altar which was built in the land of Chaldea, for the offering unto these strange gods, men, women, and children. And it came to pass that the priest made an offering unto the god of Pharaoh, and also unto the god of Shagreel, even after the manner of the Egyptians. Now the god of Shagreel was the sun.  Even the thank-offering of a child did the priest of Pharaoh offer upon the altar which stood by the hill called Potiphar's Hill, at the head of the plain of Olishem.  Now, this priest had offered upon this altar three virgins at one time, who were the daughters of Onitah, one of the royal descent directly from the loins of Ham. These virgins were offered up because of their virtue; they would not bow down to worship gods of wood or of stone, therefore they were killed upon this altar, and it was done after the manner of the Egyptians."

In the New Testament we read about how baptism is in similitude of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  When we're baptized, we're buried under the water and our old sins and the old sinful person that we were are buried.  When we rise up out of the water, it's like we're rising to a new life, just as Christ rose from the dead when He was resurrected.  Romans 6:3-13 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.  For he that is dead is freed from sin.  Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that blessed are those who trust in the Lord and whose hope is the Lord.  We don't need to fear, the Lord will be there for us and help us through whatever comes our way.  He will give us courage and strength to o things we could never do on our own.  If difficult times come, we can trust that they are for our best good and that the Lord will help us through them.  Our lives can have hope and purpose when we place our trust in the Lord.  Jeremiah 17:7 "Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Abraham's fathers were so wicked that they sacrificed their children to idols and sought to take away Abraham's life.  Abraham 1:7 "Therefore they turned their hearts to the sacrifice of the heathen in offering up their children unto these dumb idols, and hearkened not unto my voice, but endeavored to take away my life by the hand of the priest of Elkenah. The priest of Elkenah was also the priest of Pharaoh."

In the New Testament we read that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  Does that mean, then, that we have no hope?  No!  We can still be justified through the grace and redemption of Jesus Christ which He freely gave us.  He suffered for our sins and if we're willing to accept His sacrifice and repent of our sins, we can be forgiven  There is hope indeed!  Romans 3:23-24 " For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that with the Lord as our light and our salvation, we don't need to be afraid.  There is nothing to fear when we allow the Lord to be our strength and the stronghold of our lives.  We all feel afraid at times, allowing worry to overtake us.  But the way to overcome fear is to turn to God and allow Him to handle all our fears for us.  When He is our helper, there is no need to be afraid!  We can indeed trust in the Lord to be our stronghold.  Psalms 27:1 "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Abraham's fathers had turned from their righteousness to the worshiping of idols and they refused to listen to Abraham or keep the commandments because their hearts were set on evil.  Abraham 1:5-6 " My fathers, having turned from their righteousness, and from the holy commandments which the Lord their God had given unto them, unto the worshiping of the gods of the heathen, utterly refused to hearken to my voice;  For their hearts were set to do evil, and were wholly turned to the god of Elkenah, and the god of Libnah, and the god of Mahmackrah, and the god of Korash, and the god of Pharaoh, king of Egypt;"

In the New Testament we read that we need to practice what we preach.  If we're going to teach others not to steal or to commit adultery, we need to make sure we're not guilty of those things ourselves.  We need to teach not only by our words, but by our actions and our example.  It's not enough to say, "Do as I say, not as I do"  We need to live our lives in accordance with what we teach others.  Romans 2:20-23 " An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?  Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?  Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?"

A verse with a thought booklet gives us the key to finding peace in our lives--we need to keep our minds steadfastly on the Lord and put our trust in Him.  If we're feeling a lack of peace in our lives, we need to take our eyes off our troubles and the worrisome situations in our lives and focus on our Savior, placing our trust in Him.  Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Abraham was a righteous man who sought greater knowledge and instructions, and to keep the commandments of God.  He wanted to leave the land of the Chaldeans where his father lived and find a better place to live.  Abraham 1:1-2 "In the land of the Chaldeans, at the residence of my fathers, I, Abraham, saw that it was needful for me to obtain another place of residence;  And, finding there was greater happiness and peace and rest for me, I sought for the blessings of the fathers, and the right whereunto I should be ordained to administer the same; having been myself a follower of righteousness, desiring also to be one who possessed great knowledge, and to be a greater follower of righteousness, and to possess a greater knowledge, and to be a father of many nations, a prince of peace, and desiring to receive instructions, and to keep the commandments of God, I became a rightful heir, a High Priest, holding the right belonging to the fathers."

In the  New Testament Paul states that he is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the power of God unto salvation.  Are we courageous enough to stand up for the right, or are we ashamed to let others know what we believe?  Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us to trust in the Lord and keep our eyes to Him.  He can keep us from falling prey to the snares and traps that the wicked set out for us.  Staying close to the Lord and keeping His commandments is like staying safely inside boundaries that should not be crossed.  We can avoid being trapped into evil if we stay on the Lord's side of the line.  Psalms 141:8-9 "But mine eyes are unto thee, O God the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.  Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Noah was pained by the wickedness of men and it grieved his heart.  Noah was righteous and found grace i the eyes of the Lord, but the rest of the world was corrupt before God, filled with violence and evil.  God told Noah that He would destroy all flesh from off the earth.  Moses 8:25-30 "And it repented Noah, and his heart was pained that the Lord had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at the heart. And the Lord said: I will destroy man whom I have created, from the face of the earth, both man and beast, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth Noah that I have created them, and that I have made them; and he hath called upon me; for they have sought his life.  And thus Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord; for Noah was a just man, and perfect in his generation; and he walked with God, as did also his three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The earth was corrupt before God, and it was filled with violence.  And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah: The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is filled with violence, and behold I will destroy all flesh from off the earth."

In the New Testament we read about how Paul was able to heal the sick by praying for them and laying hands on them.  Even so today the Priesthood is upon the earth and great healings can take place through prayer and Priesthood blessings.  Acts 28:8-9 "And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.  So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:"

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that God is good to those who have a clean heart.  But hen it mentions that we can almost slip and fall if we become envious of the foolish or the  prosperity of the wicked. Sometimes life doesn't seem fair.  Why is it that sometimes evil people seem to have all the money and only good things happen to them, while some good people seem to suffer one trial after another?  But if we continually turn to God He will be there for us and hold us by the hand.  He will guide us and counsel us and eventually we'll receive glory in heaven.  Those who stray far from God will perish, but if we draw near to Him and put our trust in Him, it will be well with us.  Even if this life doesn't seem fair, we need to remember that this life is not the end.  In the next life, everyone will receive their just reward, or punishment, and if we stay true to the Lord, it will all be worth it.  Psalms 73:1-3, 21-28 "Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.  So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.  Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.  Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.  Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.  For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Noah cried repentance unto the people, preaching the gospel to them and telling them they needed to repent of their sins and be baptized.  But they refused to listen to him, continuing on in their wickedness.  Moses 8:19-24 "And the Lord ordained Noah after his own order, and commanded him that he should go forth and declare his Gospel unto the children of men, even as it was given unto Enoch.  And it came to pass that Noah called upon the children of men that they should repent; but they hearkened not unto his words; And also, after that they had heard him, they came up before him, saying: Behold, we are the sons of God; have we not taken unto ourselves the daughters of men? And are we not eating and drinking, and marrying and giving in marriage? And our wives bear unto us children, and the same are mighty men, which are like unto men of old, men of great renown. And they hearkened not unto the words of Noah.  And God saw that the wickedness of men had become great in the earth; and every man was lifted up in the imagination of the thoughts of his heart, being only evil continually. And it came to pass that Noah continued his preaching unto the people, saying: Hearken, and give heed unto my words;  Believe and repent of your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, even as our fathers, and ye shall receive the Holy Ghost, that ye may have all things made manifest; and if ye do not this, the floods will come in upon you; nevertheless they hearkened not."

In the New Testament we read about how Paul was miraculously unharmed by a viper's bite.  Acts 28:1-6 "And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.  And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.  And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.  And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.  Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god."

Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that if we are to be followers of God, we need to walk in love, just as Christ loved us and sacrificed for us. He is the perfect example for us to follow.  Ephesians 5:1-2 "Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;  And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that the Lord told Noah that His spirit would not always strive with man and that if they would not repent, He would send floods upon them.  Moses 8:17 "And the Lord said unto Noah: My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for he shall know that all flesh shall die; yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years; and if men do not repent, I will send in the floods upon them."

In the New Testament we read that after hearing Paul preach,  Agrippa  told him that he had almost persuaded him to be a Christian.  Paul responded that he wished that Agrippa and all those with him would not only be almost but altogether be converted just as Paul was, except that they wouldn't be in bonds. Sometimes it can  be sad and frustrating when a person "almost" accepts the gospel or "almost" decides to make positive changes in their lives. It isn't enough to almost be converted!  We need to accept Jesus Christ as our Savior 100% and put our whol hearts into living the gospel.  Acts 2:28-29 "Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.  Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day."

A some verses with a thought booklet tell us that we should praise the Lord and not forget all His benefits--He forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases.  I can understand Him forgiving all our sins when we repent, but what about healing ALL our diseases? I have known many good and faithful people who have become ill.  Some have prayed in faith for healing and they have been healed.  But others have prayed with just as much faith and have not been healed.  Some have struggled for years with their infirmities and some have died with them.  So how can the scriptures say that ALL our diseases will be healed?  There is more than one kind of healing.  Sometimes it is not God's will that our physical ailments be cured at this time (sometimes it is our time to go and be with Him), but we can be healed spiritually and emotionally--being comforted even in the midst of our afflictions, and losing our fear of death.  We can be strengthened to bear whatever comes our way.  And the day will come when He comes again and He will indeed heal all our diseases.  We can trust in Him that no matter what happens, all will be well in the end.  Psalms 103:2-3 "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;"

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Noah and his sons hearkened to the Lord and gave heed to His word.  Noah prophesied and tried to teach the things of God to others.  Moses 8:13, 16 "And Noah and his sons hearkened unto the Lord, and gave heed, and they were called the sons of God. And it came to pass that Noah prophesied, and taught the things of God, even as it was in the beginning."

In the New Testament we read about how Paul again recounted his story of how he persecuted the followers of Christ until he saw a vision of Jesus Christ who told him to repent and preach the gospel, helping others to turn from darkness to light.  He obeyed the heavenly vision and went forth to teach others about Jesus Christ and call them to repentance.  Acts 26:9-23 "I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.  And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.  Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,  At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.  And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.  But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:  But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judæa, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.  For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.  Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:  That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet remind us how we should treat one another.  We need to be forbearing and forgiving toward others, just as Christ forgives us. We need to show mercy, kindness, humility, meekness and longsuffering.  We need to show charity toward our fellowmen.  If we do these things, the peace of God will rule in our hearts.  Colossians 3:12-15 "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;  Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that the city of Enoch and all the people in it walked with God, and God received it into His own bosom, taking it up into heaven.  Moses 7:69 "And Enoch and all his people walked with God, and he dwelt in the midst of Zion; and it came to pass that Zion was not, for God received it up into his own bosom; and from thence went forth the saying, Zion is Fled."

In the New Testament we read about how even though Paul had tried to live in good conscience before God and tried to obey the Lord in preaching the gospel, he was greatly persecuted by the people.  In fact, they plotted to kill him.  Acts 23:1-2, 12 "And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.  And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.  And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul."

Some verses with a thought booklet point out how ridiculous it is to worship idols instead of the true and living God who can help us, shield us,  and is worthy of our trust.  Idols are the works of men's hands.  They have eyes but don't see, ears but don't hear, and other useless body parts.  What good are they?  Today we don't usually worship idols, but sometimes we place other things as a higher priority than we do the Lord.  Do we have time to send text messages to our friends but neglect to take the time to pray and communicate with our Heavenly Father?  Do we have time to watch TV but n time to study the scriptures?  Do we spend endless hours playing video games but have no time to serve our fellowman? Whatever we put first in our lives, which we demonstrate by the priority we place on it, becomes the god that we worship  And if it's not the Lord that we put first, whatever we do put first doesn't really matter because it won't get us any further than worshiping the false gods that the ancients made with their own hands. If we want the Lord to help us and bless us, we need to place our trust in Him and put Him first in our lives.  Psalms 115:4-12 "Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.  They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:  They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.  O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.  O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.  Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield. The Lord hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that the earth will be given peace and rest for a thousand years, but before that there would be great tribulations among the wicked.  But to the righteous it would be an hour of their redemption and they would receive a fulness of joy.  Moses 7:65-67 "And it came to pass that Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, in the last days, to dwell on the earth in righteousness for the space of a thousand years;  But before that day he saw great tribulations among the wicked; and he also saw the sea, that it was troubled, and men's hearts failing them, looking forth with fear for the judgments of the Almighty God, which should come upon the wicked. And the Lord showed Enoch all things, even unto the end of the world; and he saw the day of the righteous, the hour of their redemption, and received a fulness of joy;"

In the New Testament we read about the wonderful conversion story of Paul.  He had persecuted the Christians and even held the coats for those who stoned Stephen, and consented to his death.  But he saw Jesus in a vision and it changed his life.  He went from being a persecutor to preaching the gospel himself ad being persecuted for it and having people want to take his life.  People ca change, sometimes even miraculously.  Acts 22:3-22 "I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.  And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.  And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.  And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?  And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.  And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus. And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,  Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.  And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.  For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.  And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.  And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;  And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee: And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.  And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles. And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that the Lord is our hope and we can trust in Him our whole lives. Even though we see many bitter troubles, He will comfort us and help us get through them.   Psalms 71:5, 20-21 "For thou art my hope, O Lord God: thou art my trust from my youth. Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Enoch wept and asked the Lord when the earth would finally find rest.  He was shown in vision how the Lord would come in the last days after much tribulation, righteousness and truth would sweep the earth, and the elect would be gathered from the four quarters of the earth to Zion.  Moses 7:58-62 " And again Enoch wept and cried unto the Lord, saying: When shall the earth rest?  And Enoch beheld the Son of Man ascend up unto the Father; and he called unto the Lord, saying: Wilt thou not come again upon the earth? Forasmuch as thou art God, and I know thee, and thou hast sworn unto me, and commanded me that I should ask in the name of thine Only Begotten; thou hast made me, and given unto me a right to thy throne, and not of myself, but through thine own grace; wherefore, I ask thee if thou wilt not come again on the earth.  And the Lord said unto Enoch: As I live, even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness and vengeance, to fulfil the oath which I have made unto you concerning the children of Noah;  And the day shall come that the earth shall rest, but before that day the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth; and great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but my people will I preserve;  And righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem."

In the New Testament we read that we ought to support those who are weak and to remember the teaching of Jesus Christ that it is more blessed to give than to receive.  If we would be less selfish and think what we can do for others, instead of worrying about what they can do for us, we'd have more joy and happiness in our lives.  Acts 20:35 "I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."

A verse with a thought booklet asks the question of why should we feel cast down, depressed, or disturbed, because we have hope in God who will help us. We all have down days.  We all feel sad sometimes, especially when we're faced with trying circumstances like illness or the death of a loved one.  But we don't need to be without hope!  The Lord will be there for us and He will strengthen us during all our "cast down" times. We are not alone. There is hope!  Psalms 42:5 "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Enoch asked the Lord if the earth would find rest after the Messiah came.  The Lord showed Enoch Jesus being lifted up upon the cross and all creation mourning. Moses 7:54-56 "And it came to pass that Enoch cried unto the Lord, saying: When the Son of Man cometh in the flesh, shall the earth rest? I pray thee, show me these things.  And the Lord said unto Enoch: Look, and he looked and beheld the Son of Man lifted up on the cross, after the manner of men;  And he heard a loud voice; and the heavens were veiled; and all the creations of God mourned; and the earth groaned; and the rocks were rent; and the saints arose, and were crowned at the right hand of the Son of Man, with crowns of glory;"

In the New Testament we read about how Paul went about preaching to both Jews and Gentiles, teaching them to repent and have faith in Jesus Christ. Even though he was beset with trials and tribulations, that didn't matter to him compared with the joys of the ministry and being able to testify of Jesus Christ and His gospel.  Acts 20:18-24 "And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,  Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:  And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.  And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.  But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that God gives us a heart to know Him so that we can be His people and He can be our God. We need to turn to Him with our whole hearts.  Jeremiah 24:7 "And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that the Lord promised Enoch that after the floods destroyed everyone except for Noah and his family, He would stay His hand from flooding the earth again.  Moses 7:51-52 " And the Lord could not withhold; and he covenanted with Enoch, and sware unto him with an oath, that he would stay the floods; that he would call upon the children of Noah; And he sent forth an unalterable decree, that a remnant of his seed should always be found among all nations, while the earth should stand;"

In the New Testament we read about how the worshipers of the goddess Diana raise a tumult against Paul.  Craftsmen who profit from making idols are very upset by Paul's teachings that people should not worship images made by men's hands.  They realize that if people believe what Paul says, they'll be out of business! They stir up the people to such an extent, that confusion reigns. There are people today who try to fight the truth of the gospel.  They'll use any means they can to keep people from accepting it.  Acts 19:23-29 "And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.  For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.  Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands: So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.  And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre."

Some verses with a thought booklet are a prayer to create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us.  Those who think they're so strong that they won't succumb to temptations the very ones who often fall. We all need to pray daily that the Lord will help us resist temptation and create a clean heart within us.  We are no match for Satan unless we enlist the help of the Lord.  Then these verses go on to say that the result of having this clean heart and right spirit is that we won't be cast away, the joy of salvation will be restored to us, and we'll be upheld by the Spirit of the Lord.  But it doesn't stop there.  After we've experienced these wonderful things, it's not enough that we keep the joys of gospel to ourselves. We're then told to teach transgressors the ways of the Lord and help to convert sinners.  We need to help others find the same joy in the Lord that we have found.  The gospel is too good not to share!  Psalms 51:10-13 "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.  Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Enoch saw that the earth mourned for wickedness of the people living upon it.  Enoch wept when he heard the mourning of the earth and cried out to the Lord to have mercy on Noah and his seed, that the earth would never again be covered by floods.  Moses 7:48-50 "And it came to pass that Enoch looked upon the earth; and he heard a voice from the bowels thereof, saying: Wo, wo is me, the mother of men; I am pained, I am weary, because of the wickedness of my children. When shall I rest, and be cleansed from the filthiness which is gone forth out of me? When will my Creator sanctify me, that I may rest, and righteousness for a season abide upon my face? And when Enoch heard the earth mourn, he wept, and cried unto the Lord, saying: O Lord, wilt thou not have compassion upon the earth? Wilt thou not bless the children of Noah? And it came to pass that Enoch continued his cry unto the Lord, saying: I ask thee, O Lord, in the name of thine Only Begotten, even Jesus Christ, that thou wilt have mercy upon Noah and his seed, that the earth might never more be covered by the floods."

In the New Testament we read that the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him to keep preaching the gospel, and not hold his peace, for the Lord would be with him and not allow anyone to hurt him.  There were still many people in the city who needed to hear the Word of God.  So Paul stayed there a year and a half and continued to teach the people.  Acts 18:9-11 "Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:  For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city. And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet talk about the Lord's loving care for us and how help comes from Him.  The story is told of a young woman walking across a college campus at night.  As she walked, she didn't even notice that it was snowing lightly until she walked under a lampost.  In the light, she could see the flakes falling through the air.  And once she stopped to notice, she could feel the gentle flakes against her skin. Then she realized that God, like the snow, was all around her even if she didn't see Him or notice.  He becomes apparent when we're in the Light and when we stop to notice His presence.  He surrounds us and watches over us with great love.  Psalms 121:1-8 "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.  The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Enoch was shown in vision the coming of Jesus Christ upon the earth, and he rejoiced because of it.  Moses 7:47 "And behold, Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, even in the flesh; and his soul rejoiced, saying: The Righteous is lifted up, and the Lamb is slain from the foundation of the world; and through faith I am in the bosom of the Father, and behold, Zion is with me."

In the New Testament we read about how Paul was stirred up by the idolatry he saw and went forth to preach the gospel, trying to reach the people in a way they would understand.  Acts 17:16-28 "Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.  Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him. Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection. And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?  For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.  (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.) Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.  For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To the Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.  God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;  Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."

Sometimes I feel like my cats think they own the house and only by the goodness of their hearts do they allow me to live in it. How silly of them!  If it wasn't for me, they could be homeless and searching for food in garbage cans. But aren't we just as silly when we think we own things that really belong to God? Some scriptures from a thought booklet remind us that everything in the world belongs to the Lord.  God allows us to live in the houses that He owns and drive the cars that He owns and eat the food that He owns. When we look at our bank statements, do we really realize that everything we have is only because of the graciousness of God? Yes, maybe we worked to earn it, but who gave us the healthy bodies that allow us to work? We need to not only be more appreciative of everything the Lord has blessed us with, but we also need to be faithful stewards of the resources He has entrusted to our care, and generous in sharing those resources with those who stand in need.  Psalms 50:10-12 "For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.  If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that even though the Lord would send floods to destroy the wicked, Noah and his family would be saved because he would build an ark. And in the meridian of time, the Son of Righteousness would be slain for the sins of the world.  Moses 7:42-47 "And Enoch also saw Noah, and his family; that the posterity of all the sons of Noah should be saved with a temporal salvation;  Wherefore Enoch saw that Noah built an ark; and that the Lord smiled upon it, and held it in his own hand; but upon the residue of the wicked the floods came and swallowed them up. And as Enoch saw this, he had bitterness of soul, and wept over his brethren, and said unto the heavens: I will refuse to be comforted; but the Lord said unto Enoch: Lift up your heart, and be glad; and look.  And it came to pass that Enoch looked; and from Noah, he beheld all the families of the earth; and he cried unto the Lord, saying: When shall the day of the Lord come? When shall the blood of the Righteous be shed, that all they that mourn may be sanctified and have eternal life?  And the Lord said: It shall be in the meridian of time, in the days of wickedness and vengeance.  And behold, Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, even in the flesh; and his soul rejoiced, saying: The Righteous is lifted up, and the Lamb is slain from the foundation of the world; and through faith I am in the bosom of the Father, and behold, Zion is with me."

In the New Testament we read about how Paul and Silas preached the gospel.  Some people believed what they taught, and others did not and persecuted them.  This is common down through the ages that those who try to spread the gospel or call people to repentance are often persecuted. People who want to continue with their sinful lives seem motivated to get rid of people who preach against their wickedness.  Acts 17:1-8 "Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.  And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.  And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;  Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cæsar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things."

A verse with a thought booklet reminds us to be thankful for all the wondrous blessings that the Lord has bestowed upon us, and for His great mercy towards us. 1 Chronicles 16:34 "O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that God wept because of the wickedness of His children.  Even though His creations are so great that they cannot be numbered, He weeps over His children who must suffer because of their own wickedness and rebellion.  The Lord was going to send a flood upon them to destroy them, the workmanship of His hands, and this caused Him to weep.  Moses 7:28-40 "And it came to pass that the God of heaven looked upon the residue of the people, and he wept; and Enoch bore record of it, saying: How is it that the heavens weep, and shed forth their tears as the rain upon the mountains?  And Enoch said unto the Lord: How is it that thou canst weep, seeing thou art holy, and from all eternity to all eternity?  And were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations; and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet thou art there, and thy bosom is there; and also thou art just; thou art merciful and kind forever;  And thou hast taken Zion to thine own bosom, from all thy creations, from all eternity to all eternity; and naught but peace, justice, and truth is the habitation of thy throne; and mercy shall go before thy face and have no end; how is it thou canst weep? The Lord said unto Enoch: Behold these thy brethren; they are the workmanship of mine own hands, and I gave unto them their knowledge, in the day I created them; and in the Garden of Eden, gave I unto man his agency; And unto thy brethren have I said, and also given commandment, that they should love one another, and that they should choose me, their Father; but behold, they are without affection, and they hate their own blood; And the fire of mine indignation is kindled against them; and in my hot displeasure will I send in the floods upon them, for my fierce anger is kindled against them. Behold, I am God; Man of Holiness is my name; Man of Counsel is my name; and Endless and Eternal is my name, also.  Wherefore, I can stretch forth mine hands and hold all the creations which I have made; and mine eye can pierce them also, and among all the workmanship of mine hands there has not been so great wickedness as among thy brethren.  But behold, their sins shall be upon the heads of their fathers; Satan shall be their father, and misery shall be their doom; and the whole heavens shall weep over them, even all the workmanship of mine hands; wherefore should not the heavens weep, seeing these shall suffer? But behold, these which thine eyes are upon shall perish in the floods; and behold, I will shut them up; a prison have I prepared for them.  And that which I have chosen hath pled before my face. Wherefore, he suffereth for their sins; inasmuch as they will repent in the day that my Chosen shall return unto me, and until that day they shall be in torment;   Wherefore, for this shall the heavens weep, yea, and all the workmanship of mine hands."

In the New Testament we read about how the gospel was preached to the Jews and the Greeks, but some unbelieving Jews tried to stir up the Gentiles so they would think evil of those who preached the gospel.  Even though they spoke boldly and gave strong testimony, the people were divided as to whether to believe the apostles or to side with the Jews. This has been true all through the ages that persecution and opposition has followed those who tried to preach the gospel.  Acts 14:1-7 "And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.  Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.  But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,  They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:  And there they preached the gospel."

Some verses with a thought booklet talk about the goodness and the mercy of the Lord and how we can praise Him with thanksgiving.  They also talk about the joy and gladness we can have before His presence.  I think there's a connection here between being happy and being grateful to the Lord and appreciating all the blessings He has given us. Grateful people tend to be happier people. When we take time to acknowledge God's hand in our lives and give thanks unto Him for all our blessings, it helps us to see life in a more positive light. Psalms 100:1-5 "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.  Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read about how Enoch continued preaching righteousness unto the people of God and built a City of Holiness, even Zion.  They were of one mind and one heart and dwelt in righteousness.  There was no poor among them.  However, the rest of the inhabitants of the earth were wicked and the Lord cursed them.  In time, the city of Enoch was taken up into heaven.  Moses 7:18-21 "And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.  And Enoch continued his preaching in righteousness unto the people of God. And it came to pass in his days, that he built a city that was called the City of Holiness, even Zion.  And it came to pass that Enoch talked with the Lord; and he said unto the Lord: Surely Zion shall dwell in safety forever. But the Lord said unto Enoch: Zion have I blessed, but the residue of the people have I cursed.  And it came to pass that the Lord showed unto Enoch all the inhabitants of the earth; and he beheld, and lo, Zion, in process of time, was taken up into heaven. And the Lord said unto Enoch: Behold mine abode forever."

In the New Testament we read  about how the Jews rejected the word of God, but the Gentiles accepted it and believed. The gospel spread throughout all the region.  Acts 13:44-49 "And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.  But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.  Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.  For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.  And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.  And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet  tell us to trust in God's unfailing love and allow our hearts to rejoice in His salvation.  We can sing the Lord's praises because He has been very good to us. Think of all the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us and all the ways He has helped us in our lives.  We have much to be grateful for.  Psalms 13:5-6 "But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.  I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read about how the Lord commanded Enoch to preach repentance to the people and then baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost, which bears record of the Father and the Son.  Moses 7:10-11 "And the Lord said unto me: Go to this people, and say unto them—Repent, lest I come out and smite them with a curse, and they die.  And he gave unto me a commandment that I should baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, which is full of grace and truth, and of the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of the Father and the Son."

In the New Testament we read about the prophesies that were fulfilled in the coming of Christ, His crucifixion and His resurrection. Acts 13:26-34 "Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.  For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.  And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.  And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him from the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.  And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,  God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.  And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us not to listen to the counsel of the ungodly or spend our time with sinners and scornful people, but rather to take delight in the law of the Lord and meditate upon it day and night.  Sometimes when we think of meditation, we think of a hippie sitting cross legged and chanting "Ohm, ohm, ohm!" But meditation can really mean to think, ponder and pray about what we've studied in the scriptures, giving us time to commune with God and allowing His word to sink deep into our hearts.   Psalms 1:1-2 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."

In the P of GP we read about the baptism of Adam.  Moses 6:64-66 "And it came to pass, when the Lord had spoken with Adam, our father, that Adam cried unto the Lord, and he was caught away by the Spirit of the Lord, and was carried down into the water, and was laid under the water, and was brought forth out of the water.  And thus he was baptized, and the Spirit of God descended upon him, and thus he was born of the Spirit, and became quickened in the inner man.  And he heard a voice out of heaven, saying: Thou art baptized with fire, and with the Holy Ghost. This is the record of the Father, and the Son, from henceforth and forever;"

In the New Testament we read a story of prayers answered in a miraculous deliverance of Peter from prison.  Even when things look hopeless, we can know that when people join together in faith, miracles do happen!  Acts 12:5-11 "Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.  And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.  And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.  And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.  And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.  And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews."

Some verses with a thought booklet remind us that people can repent and change their lives.  Paul called himself chief among sinners, persecuting followers of Christ.  But he did it ignorantly in unbelief and the Lord was merciful to him in forgiving him through Jesus Christ who is longsuffering toward those who are willing to repent.  Even vile sinners can turn their lives around and find forgiveness. There is hope! 1 Timothy 1:12-17 "And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;  Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.  Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that all things were created by God and bear record of Him.  Moses 6:63 "And behold, all things have their likeness, and all things are created and made to bear record of me, both things which are temporal, and things which are spiritual; things which are in the heavens above, and things which are on the earth, and things which are in the earth, and things which are under the earth, both above and beneath: all things bear record of me."

In the New Testament we read that God is no respecter of persons.  Anyone who reverses the Lord and does works of righteousness is accepted by Him, regardless of nationality.  Acts 10:34-35 "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:  But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that if God counted and kept track of everyone's iniquities, nobody would be able to stand because we're all guilty of sin.  However, the situation is not hopeless!  We can be forgiven because the Lord is merciful and generous without redemption. Because of the atonement of Jesus Christ, it's possible for us to repent and be forgiven for our sins.   Psalms 130:1-8 "Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.  Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.  If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?  But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.  I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.  Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.  And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read about how the Lord gave men their agency that they could know good from evil and they could repent and be baptized.  Because of the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, men can be sanctified from all sin and obtain eternal life.  Moses 6:56-60 "And it is given unto them to know good from evil; wherefore they are agents unto themselves, and I have given unto you another law and commandment. Wherefore teach it unto your children, that all men, everywhere, must repent, or they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God, for no unclean thing can dwell there, or dwell in his presence; for, in the language of Adam, Man of Holiness is his name, and the name of his Only Begotten is the Son of Man, even Jesus Christ, a righteous Judge, who shall come in the meridian of time. Therefore I give unto you a commandment, to teach these things freely unto your children, saying: That by reason of transgression cometh the fall, which fall bringeth death, and inasmuch as ye were born into the world by water, and blood, and the spirit, which I have made, and so became of dust a living soul, even so ye must be born again into the kingdom of heaven, of water, and of the Spirit, and be cleansed by blood, even the blood of mine Only Begotten; that ye might be sanctified from all sin, and enjoy the words of eternal life in this world, and eternal life in the world to come, even immortal glory;  For by the water ye keep the commandment; by the Spirit ye are justified, and by the blood ye are sanctified;"

In the New Testament we read about the wonderful miracles that Peter performed  in healing a man who had been sick in bed with palsy for 8 years and raising a good woman named Tabitha from the dead.  When stories of these miracles were spread to the people, many believed in the Lord.  Do we have miracles happen in our lives?  Perhaps an answered prayer or the Lord helping us through difficult times.  Rather than keeping these things to ourselves, when prompted by the Spirit sharing these stories of faith might help someone else's testimony to grow.  Perhaps sharing some of these faith promoting stories from our lives will benefit others and help to spread the gospel. Acts 9:32-42 "And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.  And there he found a certain man named Æneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.  And Peter said unto him, Æneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.  And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord. Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.  And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.  But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.  And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.  And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that our days are numbered and we need to spend the precious time we have on this earth in applying our hearts to wisdom.  An average person may live 70 years, but even if by their extra strength they live to be 80, they still are soon cut off and will fly away.  We all have a limited number of days upon the earth and it's important that we don't waste them.  If we live to be 70, that's 25,568 days.  I've already lived 21,628 days.  Whether we live more or fewer days than 25,568, the fact remains that no matter how many days we have left to live, tomorrow there will be one less day than there is today. Let's spend every day in serving God and our fellowmen to the best of our ability and trying to make a difference in as many lives as possible. Let's spend whatever time we have wisely. Psalms 90:10-12 "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read about how Enoch preached to the people the doctrines of faith, repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost. He taught that all should turn unto the Lord and hearken to His voice.  Moses 6:52 "And he also said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me, and hearken unto my voice, and believe, and repent of all thy transgressions, and be baptized, even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth, which is Jesus Christ, the only name which shall be given under heaven, whereby salvation shall come unto the children of men, ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, asking all things in his name, and whatsoever ye shall ask, it shall be given you."

In the New Testament we read the conversion story of a eunuch that Philip was sent to by an angel of the Lord.  The eunuch had been studying the scriptures, but did not understand them.  He was reading verses from Isaiah that told of the coming of Jesus Christ, but didn't understand that until Philip explained it to him.  He then sought baptism, which Philip performed.  There are many honest seekers of truth in the world who are longing for gospel knowledge and understanding but don't know where to find it.  If we're in tune, the Lord can direct us to them and help us know what to teach them so they, like the eunuch, can be baptized and receive the Spirit of the Lord.  Acts 8:26-40 "And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,  Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.  And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.  The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:  In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.  And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?  Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.  And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.  And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.  But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell us that when we do acts of service and kindness for even the least of our brothers, we do them unto the Lord.  If we want to show our love for God, we can demonstrate it by showing love to our fellowmen. When we help someone in need, we're really helping God.  We can pray each day for the Lord to open our eyes to the needs of others and lead us to ways we can serve them, and Him.   Matthew 25:34-40 "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:  For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:  Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.  Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?  When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?  Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read that Enoch went forth to preach, as the Lord had commanded him.  All men were offended by what he had to say, since he was testifying against their evil works.  They called him a wild man.  However, no one dared lay hands on him because he walked with God.  Moses 6:37-39 "And it came to pass that Enoch went forth in the land, among the people, standing upon the hills and the high places, and cried with a loud voice, testifying against their works; and all men were offended because of him.  And they came forth to hear him, upon the high places, saying unto the tent-keepers: Tarry ye here and keep the tents, while we go yonder to behold the seer, for he prophesieth, and there is a strange thing in the land; a wild man hath come among us.  And it came to pass when they heard him, no man laid hands on him; for fear came on all them that heard him; for he walked with God."

In the New Testament we read about how Stephen testified against the people and reminded them of how their fathers had resisted the Holy Ghost, just as they were doing, and had killed the prophets.  He told them that they had received the law by the disposition of angels but had disobeyed it. These were not words that they wanted to hear!  They were cut to the heart by what Stephen said.  But rather than repenting, they stopped up their ears to try to avoid hearing what he was saying, and then they stoned him to death.  He died after seeing the glory of God, with Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and while praying that the Lord would not hold this sin to their charge. Acts 7:51-60 "Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:  Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.  But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,  And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.  Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,  And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.  And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep."

A verse with a thought booklet tells us that if we seek to hide our sins and cover them up, we won't prosper. But if we confess them and forsake them, we'll receive mercy. We may be able to succeed in hiding our sins from other people, but we'll never be able to hide them from God and unless we repent of them we will suffer the consequences.   Proverbs 28:13 "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."

Daily Thoughts

In the P of GP we read about how the Lord called Enoch to be a prophet and told him to call the evil people to repentance.  Enoch was reluctant to accept this call from God, saying he was just a lad, was slow of speech, and all the people hated him.  But the Lord didn't take no for an answer.  He told Enoch that He would be with him and fill his mouth with what he should say.  When the Lord calls us to do difficult things, or things that we feel inadequate to accomplish, we need to remember that the Lord qualifies those He calls.  And if we'll humbly seek His guidance, He will walk with us and teach us how to do what He's asked us to do.  He will help us succeed.  Moses 6:26-34 "And it came to pass that Enoch journeyed in the land, among the people; and as he journeyed, the Spirit of God descended out of heaven, and abode upon him. And he heard a voice from heaven, saying: Enoch, my son, prophesy unto this people, and say unto them—Repent, for thus saith the Lord: I am angry with this people, and my fierce anger is kindled against them; for their hearts have waxed hard, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes cannot see afar off;  And for these many generations, ever since the day that I created them, have they gone astray, and have denied me, and have sought their own counsels in the dark; and in their own abominations have they devised murder, and have not kept the commandments, which I gave unto their father, Adam.  Wherefore, they have foresworn themselves, and, by their oaths, they have brought upon themselves death; and a hell I have prepared for them, if they repent not;  And this is a decree, which I have sent forth in the beginning of the world, from my own mouth, from the foundation thereof, and by the mouths of my servants, thy fathers, have I decreed it, even as it shall be sent forth in the world, unto the ends thereof. And when Enoch had heard these words, he bowed himself to the earth, before the Lord, and spake before the Lord, saying: Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and am but a lad, and all the people hate me; for I am slow of speech; wherefore am I thy servant?  And the Lord said unto Enoch: Go forth and do as I have commanded thee, and no man shall pierce thee. Open thy mouth, and it shall be filled, and I will give thee utterance, for all flesh is in my hands, and I will do as seemeth me good.  Say unto this people: Choose ye this day, to serve the Lord God who made you.  Behold my Spirit is upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify; and the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me."

In the New Testament we read how Stephen recounted some of the history of Israel, how they came to Egypt and were later delivered from Egypt by Moses.  Acts 7:1-36 "Then said the high priest, Are these things so? And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. Then came he out of the land of the Chaldæans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.  And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years. And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.  And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.  And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.  Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.  But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.  And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.  Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.  So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,  And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.  But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.  The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live. In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months: And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.  And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.  And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.  And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:  For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?  But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?  Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.  And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.  When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,  Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.  Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.  I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.  This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years."

Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell the story of the woman taken in adultery and how Jesus handled the situation when the scribes and Pharisees wanted to stone her.  He suggested to her accusers that he who was without sin among them cast the first stone.  This caused them to examine their own hearts and slink away while the Savior was writing in the sand.  From this we learn that none of us is without sin and we're in no position to judge others.  Then we see that Jesus told the woman to go and sin no more.  He was not eager to condemn, even though He could not condone her sin, but simply told her to go and leave her life of sin.  He wants all of us to repent of our sins, change our lives, and follow Him.  John 8:1-11 "Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.  And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.  And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,  They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?  This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.  And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.  When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?  She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more."

Daily Thoughts

In the P or GP we read about how wicked the children of men became and how their hearts were turned to war and bloodshed.  Moses 6:15 "And the children of men were numerous upon all the face of the land. And in those days Satan had great dominion among men, and raged in their hearts; and from thenceforth came wars and bloodshed; and a man's hand was against his own brother, in administering death, because of secret works, seeking for power."

In the New Testament we read about how the apostles were filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke the word of God with boldness and power.  They witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  As a result, the multitude that believed were of one heart and one soul and had all things common.  If anyone lacked among them, those who had more than enough supplied what was needed.  Wealthy people would sell their lands and their surplus and lay it at the apostles' feet for distribution to be made to those in need.  We can learn much from the example of these early saints.  Acts 4:31-37 "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.  And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.  And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.  Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,  Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet."

Some verses with a thought booklet remind us that faith without works is dead.  If we say we believe but don't keep the commandments, we're not demonstrating our faith with our actions.  Just like it would do no good to tell a hungry person to go in peace and be well fed, but not give them anything to eat, so is our faith dead if we proclaim it verbally but don't back it up by the lives we live.  James 2:14-18 "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?  If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."
