In the D&C we read that Jesus Christ has atoned for our sins and will gather His people if they hearken to His voice and humble themselves before Him, praying mightily. D&C 29:1-2 "Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your Redeemer, the Great I Am, whose arm of mercy hath atoned for your sins; Who will gather his people even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, even as many as will hearken to my voice and humble themselves before me, and call upon me in mighty prayer."
In the Old Testament we read that if the Lord counted all our iniquities, none of us could stand. We all sin. But through the Lord, we can find forgiveness. Psalms 130:3-4 "If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that Christ is our peace and can make us one with each other, having broken down dividing walls of hostility between us. If we're having a problem with another person, we can turn to the Lord for help. He can help us find peace with them. Ephesians 2:14 "For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;"

In the D&C we read that we should put on the whole armor of God. D&C 27:15-18 "Wherefore, lift up your hearts and rejoice, and gird up your loins, and take upon you my whole armor, that ye may be able to withstand the evil day, having done all, that ye may be able to stand. Stand, therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, having on the breastplate of righteousness, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, which I have sent mine angels to commit unto you; Taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked; And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of my Spirit, which I will pour out upon you, and my word which I reveal unto you, and be agreed as touching all things whatsoever ye ask of me, and be faithful until I come, and ye shall be caught up, that where I am ye shall be also. Amen."
In the Old Testament we read that if we love the law of the Lord, we'll have peace in our lives and nothing will offend us. What a wonderful blessing to receive, as a consequence of keeping the commandments of God. Psalms 119:165 "Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that anything we have sacrifices for the Lord's sake in this life will be made up for a hundred times over in the next life, when we'll inherit everlasting life. It will all be worth it! Matthew 19:29 "And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."

In the D&C we read that the songs of the heart delight the Lord and are a prayer unto Him. They will be answered with a blessing upon our heads. D&C 25:12 "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads."
In the Old Testament we read a verse that would be a good one to memorize and say to ourselves when we're tempted to do something wrong or give in to peer pressure--firmly stating that we will keep the commandments of God and telling evildoers to depart from us. I don't know that it would be a great idea to state this out loud to the "evildoers" who might not appreciate being called such, but it's something we can say to ourselves when faced with temptation. And it is actually something we could say out loud to the TV set or the computer as we firmly turn it off! Psalms 119: 115 "Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us to put off our former selves which were corrupt with deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of our minds, putting on a new man which God created in righteousness and true holiness. When we turn our lives over to the Lord, we become whole new people! Ephesians 4:22-24 "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that we should lay aside the things of this world and seek for the things of a better world. Are we setting our hearts on things of the world, or on treasures of heaven, which are of lasting value? D&C 25:10 "And verily I say unto thee that thou shalt lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better."
In the Old Testament we read that we should delight ourselves in the commandments and love them. Do we sometimes look at the commandments as being restrictive and keeping us from doing fun things we want to do? Such is really not the case. When we break the commandments, it hurts us and brings us shame and unhappiness. It can lead to addictions which bind us and keep us from being free. Actually, the way to true peace and happiness is to keep the commandments. So why shouldn't we love them and delight in them? They provide the way for us to gain eternal life! Psalms 119:47 "And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved."
In some verses with a thought booklet we read the parable of the prodigal son, and how even though the son had sinned, when he came back his father welcomed him with open armed and rejoiced at his return. Likewise, even when we stray, our Heavenly Father still loves us and rejoices when we turn our lives around and come back to Him. He welcomes us with open arms! It's a great comfort for us to know that Heavenly Father loves us, even when we're bad, just like we love our own children even when they're bad. Luke 15:11-24 "And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry."

In the D&C we read that if we'll be patient in our afflictions, and endure them well, the Lord will be with us even to the end. D&C 24:8 "Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days."
In the Old Testament we read that we can trust in the Lord who will be our help and our shield. It is foolish to worship idols who have eyes but cannot see and ears but cannot hear. They are the works of men's hands. But the Lord is in the heavens and He can do whatever He pleases. Psalms 115:2-11 "Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them. O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: he is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield. Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield."
In a verse with a thought booklet, Jesus declared Himself the light of the world and said that whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness but have the light of life. John 8:12 "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that if we'll call upon God for help, when we speak or write, it will be given to us in the very hour we need it what we should say. D&C 24:5-6 "And thou shalt continue in calling upon God in my name, and writing the things which shall be given thee by the Comforter, and expounding all scriptures unto the church. And it shall be given thee in the very moment what thou shalt speak and write, and they shall hear it, or I will send unto them a cursing instead of a blessing."
In the Old Testament we read about how gracious and full of compassion the Lord is. He is holy and His name is reverend. When we reverence the Lord, that is the beginning of wisdom and we are able to gain a good understanding. Psalms 111:1-10 "Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion. He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant. He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet remind us of how vital it is that we forgive others. In fact, if we're willing to forgive those who have trespassed against us, the Lord will likewise be willing to forgive us for our trespasses. Matthew 6:12-15 "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C I read that we need to heed the words of our prophet in patience and faith as we would heed the words of the Lord. If we do this, the gates of hell will not prevail against us and the heavens will shake for our good. D&C 21:4-6 "Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith. For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; yea, and the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you, and cause the heavens to shake for your good, and his name's glory."
In the Old Testament we read that we should praise the Lord for all the wonderful works that He does for us. He satisfies our longing souls and fills our hungry souls with goodness. Psalms 107:8-9 "Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness."
A verse with a thought booklet compares godly sorrow with the sorrow of the world. Godly sorrow makes us want to repent and do better in our lives. We realize we've done something wrong, feel sorrowful about it, and want to turn our lives around. But the sorrow of the world makes us feel discouraged and worthless and feel like giving up. Instead of building us up and helping us become better, it makes us feel like we'll never be good enough, so why try? When we're feeling sorrowful over something we've done wrong, we need to ask ourselves if we're feeling godly sorrow that leads us to repent, or if we're feeling worldly sorrow which makes us feel worthless and not worthy of repenting. If it's the latter, we can know that it's not from God and we need to turn to Him for help in improving our lives and feeling worthy once again. 2 Corinthians 7:10 " For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we're given the words to the sacrament prayers and told that it's expedient that the church meet together often so that they may partake of the sacrament. During the sacrament, we renew our covenants to keep the commandments, always remember Jesus, and take His name upon us. If we do these things, we're promised that we'll always have His Spirit to be with us. D&C 20:75-79 "It is expedient that the church meet together often to partake of bread and wine in the remembrance of the Lord Jesus; And the elder or priest shall administer it; and after this manner shall he administer it—he shall kneel with the church and call upon the Father in solemn prayer, saying: O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it, that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him and keep his commandments which he has given them; that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen. The manner of administering the wine—he shall take the cup also, and say: O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of all those who drink of it, that they may do it in remembrance of the blood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they do always remember him, that they may have his Spirit to be with them. Amen."
In the Old Testament we read about the great sins commited by the children of Israel. Instead of destroying the wicked nations like the Lord had commanded them, they mingled among them and learned their evil ways, worshiping their false gods and sacrificing their children to idols. But in spite of all this wickedness, when they cried out to the Lord in their afflictions, He heard their prayers and had mercy on them, remembering His covenant with them. No matter how much we sin, the Lord loves us and wants us to repent and come unto Him. Psalms 106:34-47 "They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them: But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them. Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand. Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry: And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives. Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet go right along with the idea of becoming clean even though we have sinned. They give great hope to all of us who have sinned, which is all of us. We can be clean again! We need to put away our evil doings and cease to commit sin. We need to learn to do well, helping and serving others. Even though our sins were scarlet, they'll become white as snow! We can change, with the Lord's help, and He has made repentance possible. Isaiah 1:16-18 "Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C the proper mode of baptism is given. No one should be baptized until they've reached the age of accountability and is able to repent. We've learned that this means 8 years old. The person is to be baptized by immersion by someone who has the proper priesthood authority, and the exact words to be spoken are given by the Lord. D&C 20:71-74 " No one can be received into the church of Christ unless he has arrived unto the years of accountability before God, and is capable of repentance. Baptism is to be administered in the following manner unto all those who repent— The person who is called of God and has authority from Jesus Christ to baptize, shall go down into the water with the person who has presented himself or herself for baptism, and shall say, calling him or her by name: Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Then shall he immerse him or her in the water, and come forth again out of the water."
In the Old Testament we read a recounting of all the things the Lord did for the children of Israel in the days of Moses--how He did mighty miracles and brought them forth out of Egypt, how He provided for them in the wilderness, and how He brought them to the promised land. They are to observe His statutes and keep His laws. Psalms 105:26-45 "He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts. He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts. He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number, And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground. He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength. He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river. For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness: And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people; That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the Lord."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell us that the law of the Lord is perfect and will convert our souls. The testimony of the Lord is sure and it will make even the simple wise. The statutes of the Lord are right, and will bring us joy. Keeping the commandments will enlighten our eyes. Psalms 19:7-8 "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that we need to humbled ourselves before God and come to Him with a broken heart and contrite spirit, witnessing that we have truly repented of our sins and are willing to serve Jesus Christ to the end. We need to manifest by our works that we have received a remission of our sins. If we're willing to do all these things, we can be received by baptism into Christ's church. D&C 20:37 "And again, by way of commandment to the church concerning the manner of baptism—All those who humble themselves before God, and desire to be baptized, and come forth with broken hearts and contrite spirits, and witness before the church that they have truly repented of all their sins, and are willing to take upon them the name of Jesus Christ, having a determination to serve him to the end, and truly manifest by their works that they have received of the Spirit of Christ unto the remission of their sins, shall be received by baptism into his church."
In the Old Testament we read that repent of our sins and the Lord forgives us, our transgressions are removed from us as far as the east is from the west. You can't get any further away than that! Psalms 103:12 "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
Some verses with a thought booklet contain a prayer to cleanse us from secret faults and not allow them to have dominion over us--to be innocent from great transgressions and let both the words of our mouths and the thoughts of our hearts be acceptable in the sight of God, who is our strength and our redeemer. Is this something that we pray for in our daily prayers? I can see how praying in this way would help us perfect our lives and put them in order. Psalms 19:12-14 "Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that all men must repent, believe in the name of Jesus Christ, and endure in faith to the end, or they cannot be saved in the Kingdom of God. D&C 20:29 "And we know that all men must repent and believe on the name of Jesus Christ, and worship the Father in his name, and endure in faith on his name to the end, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God."
In the Old Testament we're told to serve the Lord with gladness and come before Him with singing. We're supposed to be happy and cheerful! It's not enough to do the right things grudgingly and with a grumpy attitude. Men are that they might have joy! The Lord wants us to be happy. Psalms 99:2 "The Lord is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people."
Some verses with a thought booklet tell of Jesus asking Peter three times if he loved Him, and then instructing him to feed His sheep. We may wonder why Jesus asked him this same question three times. Perhaps it was because Peter had denied Him three times and Jesus was giving him a chance to repent of that by affirming his love for Him three times. Perhaps it was to emphasize the point that if he indeed did love Jesus, he needed to show it by his actions, in feeding His sheep, or nourishing His followers. If we truly love the Lord, will we show it in our actions and in how well we serve our fellowman? John 21:15-17 "So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that God gave His only Begotten Son who suffered temptations without giving any heed to them, and was crucified for our sins, rising again the third day and ascending to heaven to sit down on the right hand of God to reign with almighty power according to the will of the Father. D&C 20:21-24 "Wherefore, the Almighty God gave his Only Begotten Son, as it is written in those scriptures which have been given of him. He suffered temptations but gave no heed unto them. He was crucified, died, and rose again the third day; And ascended into heaven, to sit down on the right hand of the Father, to reign with almighty power according to the will of the Father;"
In the Old Testament we read the foolishness of those who do wickedly and think the Lord won't know about it. How could a God who created our eyes not be able to see what we're doing, or He who created our ears not hear? How could He who teaches all wisdom not have knowledge Himself? The Lord knows all our thoughts. Psalms 94:3-11 "Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? They break in pieces thy people, O Lord, and afflict thine heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. Yet they say, The Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see? He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know? The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet talk about judging others because of their wealth or the clothing that they wear. Do we discriminate against people and judge them with our evil thoughts, treating them with less respect because they don't have as much worldly wealth as someone else? We can be grateful that the Lord doesn't judge us by our outside appearances, but rather by knowing and understanding us well. Do we give people a chance or do we dismiss them with a quick glance? James 2:1-4 "My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?"

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that God gave Joseph Smith power from on high by which means he was able to translate the Book of Mormon, which contains a fulness of the gospel. This was confirmed by the witnesses of others, proving to the world that the holy scriptures are true and God inspires men and calls them to His holy work in this day as well as in days of old. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. D&C 20:8-12 "And gave him power from on high, by the means which were before prepared, to translate the Book of Mormon; Which contains a record of a fallen people, and the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles and to the Jews also; Which was given by inspiration, and is confirmed to others by the ministering of angels, and is declared unto the world by them— Proving to the world that the holy scriptures are true, and that God does inspire men and call them to his holy work in this age and generation, as well as in generations of old; Thereby showing that he is the same God yesterday, today, and forever. Amen."
In the Old Testament we read that those who forsake God's law and don't walk in His judgments will be punished for their iniquity. However, the Lord will not utterly remove His loving kindness, nor fail in His faithfulness. The Lord loves us, even when we sin. We will be punished for our sins if we refuse to repent, but the Lord will welcome us back with loving arms if we're wiling to repent. Psalms 89:30-33 "If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail."
A verse with a thought booklet reminds us to be quick to hear but slow to speak, and to be slow to wrath. In other works, listen more than you talk and don't let yourself become easily angered. Do we really listen to other people, or are we thinking more about what we want to say back to them? Can we hardly wait for them to shut up so we can say our piece? What kind of people do you enjoy being around--whose who talk your ear off so you can't get a word in edgewise, or those who really seem to listen to what you have to say? Do we prefer people who get angry over ever little thing or people who are not easily offended? If we want friends who enjoy being around us, what type of person should we be? James 1:19 " Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:"

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C I read that if we pray always, we'll receive great blessings and the Lord will pour out His Spirit abundantly upon us. We'll receive even greater blessings than the treasures of the earth. How can we read such things without lifting up our hearts in rejoicing and gladness? D&C 19:38-39 "Pray always, and I will pour out my Spirit upon you, and great shall be your blessing—yea, even more than if you should obtain treasures of earth and corruptibleness to the extent thereof. Behold, canst thou read this without rejoicing and lifting up thy heart for gladness?"
In the Old Testament we read that the Lord listens to our prayers and answers them. We can turn to him in the day of our troubles. Psalms 86:6-7 "Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me."
A verse with a thought booklet reminds us that we need to love one another as the Lord loves us. The most important thing we can do is to love others. John 15:12 "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that we should pray at all times and in all circumstances, both verbally and in our hearts, in public and in private. And we should declare the glad tidings of the gospel, with humility and trusting in the Lord. We should not revile against those who revile against us. D&C 19:28-30 "And again, I command thee that thou shalt pray vocally as well as in thy heart; yea, before the world as well as in secret, in public as well as in private. And thou shalt declare glad tidings, yea, publish it upon the mountains, and upon every high place, and among every people that thou shalt be permitted to see. And thou shalt do it with all humility, trusting in me, reviling not against revilers."
In the Old Testament we're told that those who trust in the Lord will be blessed and that the Lord will give grace and glory and not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. So if we'll keep the commandments and trust in the Lord, our blessings will abound! Psalms 84:11-12 "For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet tell about how Thomas believed once he saw Jesus with his own eyes. Jesus said that those who can believe without seeing are even more blessed. We have not seen Jesus ourselves, but we will be blessed for having faith in Him. John 20:28-29 "And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C I read that we need to listen to the words of Christ and learn of Him, walking in meekness of Spirit. If we do this, we'll find peace in Him. D&C 19:23 "Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me."
In the Old Testament we read that the Lord would have let the Israelites triumph over their enemies had they walked in His ways and not turned to other gods. But they would not hearken to His voice, but insisted on walking in their own counsels. Psalms 81:8-16 "Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me; There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god. I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels. Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries. The haters of the Lord should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever. He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us to comfort and edify one another. We need to be sensitive to other people and try to help them if they're going through a difficult time, and try to strengthen them and build them up if they are faltering. Look around today and see if there is someone you can make a difference to. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C I read that Jesus Christ suffered for all if they would repent, but if they refuse to repent, they will suffer even as He did, which suffering caused Him to bleed from every pore. We need to humble ourselves, confess our sins, and repent. D&C 19:15-20 "Therefore I command you to repent—repent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and by my anger, and your sufferings be sore—how sore you know not, how exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not. For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent; But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink— Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men. Wherefore, I command you again to repent, lest I humble you with my almighty power; and that you confess your sins, lest you suffer these punishments of which I have spoken, of which in the smallest, yea, even in the least degree you have tasted at the time I withdrew my Spirit."
In the Old Testament we read about how the children of Israel turned from the Lord, spake against Him and sinned, in spite of all the marvelous things He had done for them. He parted the Red Sea so they could cross over, made water gush out of a rock, and fed them manna from heaven. But in spite of all this and more, they refused to believe and they committed sins against the Lord. If we think back in our own lives, Im sure we can find many, many things the Lord has done for us over the years--blessings He has given us, or miracles that have occurred, answers to prayers. In yet are we like the Israelites and sometimes easily forget these things and turn away from the Lord, doing things we shouldn't or neglecting to do things we should? We need to learn from their bad examples and be grateful for all the Lord has done for us, and strive to keep His commandments to the best of our abilities. Psalms 78:10-32 "They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them. Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap. In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers. And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness. And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation: Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire; They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel. For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works."
A verse from a thought booklet tells us that this is the day the Lord has made and we should rejoice and be glad in it. The Lord has commanded us to be joyful! Every day may not be a pleasant day and some days will be full of trials and tribulations, but we can still find joy if we realize that each day is a gift from God. I used to know a lady who had this verse as the outgoing message on her answering machine. Even though she was in a wheelchair and had many trials in her life, she always greeted you with a smile and had a cheerful attitude to brighten your day. She lived this verse. Psalms 118:24 "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that we must repent and be baptized, and then keep the commandments of God in all things. If we do this, we'll receive blessings above all things. But after we've received these things, if we don't keep the commandments we will not be saved in the Kingdom of God. D&C 18:42-46 "For all men must repent and be baptized, and not only men, but women, and children who have arrived at the years of accountability. And now, after that you have received this, you must keep my commandments in all things; And by your hands I will work a marvelous work among the children of men, unto the convincing of many of their sins, that they may come unto repentance, and that they may come unto the kingdom of my Father. Wherefore, the blessings which I give unto you are above all things. And after that you have received this, if you keep not my commandments you cannot be saved in the kingdom of my Father."
In the Old Testament we read that we should teach the law of the Lord to our children and show the next generation His wonderful works that He has done. Each generation should teach these things to their children so that a knowledge of God can be passed on and they will have hope in God, not forget His works, and keep His commandments. Psalms 78:1-7 "Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:"
A verse with a thought booklet reminds us of the wonderful things God has prepared for us if we are righteous and love Him. Our reward will be so great that not only have we never seen anything like it, or heard anything like it, but no mind has even conceived of it! The world to come will be so magnificent, we cannot even imagine it. 1 Corinthians 2:9 "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that unless we have faith, hope, and charity, we can do nothing. D&C 18:19 "And if you have not faith, hope, and charity, you can do nothing."
In the Old Testament we read about the foolishness of being jealous of the prosperity of the wicked. Such feelings of envy can cause us to slip. God is good to those who have clean hearts, but pride can compass us about like a chain. The ungodly who prosper in the world and increase in riches will perish in the end. But those who draw near to God and put their trust in Him will be received up unto glory. Sometimes we can look at wicked people and they they have it pretty good, and actually be envious of them. But in the end, they will reap destruction. And if we are faithful, we will reap our reward that's worth more than all the money in the world. Psalms 73:1-12, 17-19, 23-28 "Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us that if we trust only in ourselves, we are a fool. We need to walk in wisdom to be kept safe. The Lord's wisdom is far better than our own. Proverbs 28:26 "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that the worth of souls is great in the sight of God. Indeed, He suffered for all men that they might repent and come unto Him and He made it possible for all to be resurrected. His joy is great in the soul who repents. We are called to cry repentance unto the people and if we can bring one soul unto the Lord, we'll have great joy with them in the Kingdom of God. And if our joy is great with one soul, imagine our joy if we're able to bring many souls unto God! D&C 18:10-16 "Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God; For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him. And he hath risen again from the dead, that he might bring all men unto him, on conditions of repentance. And how great is his joy in the soul that repenteth! Wherefore, you are called to cry repentance unto this people. And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father! And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!"
In the Old Testament we read about how we can turn to the Lord for help and comfort during the worst times of our trials and tribulations, even if we're sinking into deep mire or flood waters overflow upon us and even if we're weary from crying. We can pray for deliverance from whatever is troubling us. Psalms 69:1-3, 13-18 "Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation. Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me. Hear me, O Lord; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies. And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily. Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet show Jesus asking His disciples who people were saying that He was. He got a variety of answers. Then He asked them who they thought He was, and Simon Peter answered that He was the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus said that flesh and blood could not give such knowledge, but it was given by Heavenly Father. If today we were to take a survey of people on the street, asking them who Jesus was, we'd probably get dozens of different answers--a good teacher, a historical figure, a Jew, a healer, a storyteller, a good guy, a figment of people's imaginations. But the knowledge of who Jesus Christ really is can only be given through the Spirit. If we really want to know who Jesus is, we must study the scriptures and pray for understanding. Matthew 16:13-17 "When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that the world is ripening in iniquity and is in great need of being stirred up unto repentance. If this was true back in 1829 when it was written, imagine how much more true it is today, when wickedness is so much more rampant. D&C 18:6 "Behold, the world is ripening in iniquity; and it must needs be that the children of men are stirred up unto repentance, both the Gentiles and also the house of Israel."
In the Old Testament we're told that if we regard iniquity in our hearts, the Lord won't hear us, but He will not turn His mercy away from us if we turn to Him in prayer and He will bless us and be attentive to our voices. Psalms 66:18-20 "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me."
In some verses with a thought booklet we read that the animals and birds and nature can teach us that the souls of all things are in the hands of the Lord. It's amazing to enjoy beautiful scenes of nature and the wildlife in it, and realize that God made all creatures great and small, and they're all a part of His plan. Job 12:7-10 "But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that the thing which is of most worth is to declare repentance unto the people, and bring souls unto Christ, that we may rest with them in the Kingdom of the Father. D&C 15:6 "And now, behold, I say unto you, that the thing which will be of the most worth unto you will be to declare repentance unto this people, that you may bring souls unto me, that you may rest with them in the kingdom of my Father. Amen."
Some verses with a thought booklet describe how Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, showing an example of how we should serve one another. And he told us that if we would do these things, we would be happy. Have you noticed that some of the happiest people are those who unselfishly serve others? And how some of the most miserable are people who think only of themselves? John 13:12-17 "So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us to trust in the Lord at all times and to pour out our hearts before Him. He will be a refuge for us. Truly, we can turn to the Lord in all our times of need and can trust Him to answer our prayers in the way that is best for us. Psalms 62:8 "Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that if we keep the commandments and endure to the end, we'll receive eternal life, which is the greatest of all the gifts of God. D&C 14: 7 "And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God."
In the Old Testament we're again reminded that we can cry unto God and He'll perform all things for us. We can turn to the Lord in prayer for help in anything we need. Psalms 57:2 "I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me."
A verse with a thought booklet gives us insights into HOW to pray. It isn't enough to just heap up a lot of empty phrases and think we'll be heard for our many words. We need to pray from our hearts. Do we sometimes get into a rut with our prayers, saying the same things day after day without even paying attention to what we're saying? If we're so bored with our own prayers that we can't pay attention, how do you think the Lord feels? It's important that we pray each day, but it's equally important that we pray from our hearts. Matthew 6:7 "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read about how John the Baptist conferred the Aaronic Priesthood upon Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, which priesthood holds the keys of the ministering of angels and the gospel of repentance and baptism. D&C 13: 1 "Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness."
A verse from the Old Testament tells us to cast our burdens upon the Lord for He will sustain us and He will not allow the righteous to be moved. When we have problems or are weighed down with tribulations, we can turn to the Lord for help and comfort. Psalms 55:22 "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."
Some scriptures with a thought booklet remind us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. No matter what we've done or how unworthy we may feel, we can know assuredly, that God still loves us, just as we still love our children even when they misbehave. Romans 8:38-39 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that in order to assist in the work of the Lord we need to be humble and full of love, charity, hope and faith. D&C 12:8 "And no one can assist in this work except he shall be humble and full of love, having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things, whatsoever shall be entrusted to his care."
In the Old Testament I read David's pleas for forgiveness, crying out to the Lord in repentance and asking Him to renew his spirit and create a clean heart in him and wash him thoroughly from his iniquity. When we sin, we likewise can turn to the Lord in prayer, repenting of our sins and having them washed away, making us whiter than snow and restoring the joy of our salvation. Psalms 51:1-4, 7-12 "Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit."
A verse with a thought booklet tells us to warn those who are unruly, comfort and encourage the faint hearted and despondent, care for those who are doubting and timid, and be patient toward all men. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 "Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that we should put our trust in the Lord and His Spirit which leads us to do good, enlightens our minds, and fills our souls with joy. D&C 11:12-13 "And now, verily, verily, I say unto thee, put your trust in that Spirit which leadeth to do good—yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit. Verily, verily, I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy;"
In the Old Testament we read that instead of putting our trust in our weapons of war and expecting them to save us, we need to put our trust in the Lord who will protect us from all our enemies. He is more powerful than all the armies in the world. Psalms 44:5-8 "Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us. In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah."
In some verses from a thought booklet we read about how the multitudes welcomed Jesus as He rode triumphantly into Jerusalem, as they cried out "Hosanna." Matthew 21: 9"And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. However, just a few days later these same people were crying out "Crucify Him!" Matthew 27: 22-23 "Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified." What made them change their tune in just a few days time? Maybe they expected Him to announce ward against their Roman oppressors, but He did not. Maybe they just didn't think things were going the way they wanted. How do we react when we're faced with choosing to follow the Lord or having things go the way we'd planned? Can we stand up to peer pressure when the world doesn't agree with God's standards? How do we react when faced with keeping our job or standing up for what is right? When the going gets tough, do we stand firm or do we change our tune like the people in Jerusalem did in the days of Jesus?

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that those who ask will receive, and if we ask for wisdom instead of riches, we'll have the mysteries of God unfolded unto us. He who has eternal life is rich. D&C 11:5-7 "Therefore, if you will ask of me you shall receive; if you will knock it shall be opened unto you. Now, as you have asked, behold, I say unto you, keep my commandments, and seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion. Seek not for riches but for wisdom; and, behold, the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto you, and then shall you be made rich. Behold, he that hath eternal life is rich."
In the Old Testament the question is asked why we should feel cast down and disquieted when we should have hope in God and praise Him. He is the health of our countenance. When we're feeling down and discouraged, we can turn to the Lord in praise and hope. Psalms 42: 11 "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."
In some scriptures with a thought booklet we read about how the Israelites complained bitterly about having manna to eat every day. They wanted cucumbers and melons, leeks and onions! Hear the Lord was blessing them richly by giving them manna to eat, which He sent from Heaven, and they not only took it for granted and lacked appreciation for it, but they complained about what they didn't have. The Lord was very displeased with their attitude. Are we like this? Instead of giving thanks for all the blessings the Lord has given us, do we complain about the things we don't have? Maybe our house isn't as fancy as we'd like and maybe we can't afford trips around the world or a fancy new car every year. Whenever we start looking at things other people have and complaining about what we lack, we should look around at what we have. Do we have a roof over our head? Sufficient food to eat? A family we love? Reasonably good health? The gospel in our lives? Count your blessings name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Numbers 11:4-10 "And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick: But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes. And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium. And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it. Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased."

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read that Satan stirs up the hearts of the people to contend upon points of doctrine, wresting the scriptures because they don't understand them. In this they greatly err. D&C 10:63 "And this I do that I may establish my gospel, that there may not be so much contention; yea, Satan doth stir up the hearts of the people to contention concerning the points of my doctrine; and in these things they do err, for they do wrest the scriptures and do not understand them."
In the Old Testament we read that the righteous will be rewarded with salvation and peace and the Lord will give them strength in times of trouble. God will deliver those who trust in Him. However, transgressors will be destroyed and the wicked will be cut off. The rewards of the righteous and the punishments of the wicked are both great. The choice is ours. Psalms 37: 37-40 "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust "
A verse with a thought booklet tells us not to be surprised when a fiery trial comes upon us or think that a strange thing is happening to us. Instead, we should realize that life is full of adversity. It is normal to go through trials and tribulations. God never promises us a life of ease with no troubles--in fact we're told just the opposite. However, if we trust in Him, He will stand beside us through whatever we go through. 1 Peter 4:12 "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:"

Daily Thoughts
In the D&C we read about how Satan seeks to destroy the souls of men, stirring them up to anger against the work of the Lord. He flatters them and leads them along until he can drag their souls down to hell. Those who hearken to him are full of wickedness and corruption, loving darkness rather than light and refusing to pray to the Lord. D&C 10:20-27 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, that Satan has great hold upon their hearts; he stirreth them up to iniquity against that which is good; And their hearts are corrupt, and full of wickedness and abominations; and they love darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil; therefore they will not ask of me. Satan stirreth them up, that he may lead their souls to destruction. And thus he has laid a cunning plan, thinking to destroy the work of God; but I will require this at their hands, and it shall turn to their shame and condemnation in the day of judgment. Yea, he stirreth up their hearts to anger against this work. Yea, he saith unto them: Deceive and lie in wait to catch, that ye may destroy; behold, this is no harm. And thus he flattereth them, and telleth them that it is no sin to lie that they may catch a man in a lie, that they may destroy him. And thus he flattereth them, and leadeth them along until he draggeth their souls down to hell; and thus he causeth them to catch themselves in their own snare. And thus he goeth up and down, to and fro in the earth, seeking to destroy the souls of men."
In a verse in the Old Testament we're reminded that the Lord is loving and kind and we can safely put our trust in the shadow of His wings. Psalms 36:7 "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings."
In a verse with a thought booklet we're reminded to be strong and of good courage because the Lord will not fail nor forsake us. The Lord will go with us and we have nothing to be afraid of. What comforting words! Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."
